City Band plays for July 4th celebration

MONROE - The Monroe City Band will present a concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 4, in the Twining Park bandshell, as part of the 4th of July celebration. The concert will open with the "Star Spangled Banner," then "American Visions," by Travis J. Weller; "The Blue and the Gray," a Civil War suite, by Clare Grundman; "Theme From Lawrence of Arabia," by Maurice Jarre,, arranged by Alfred Reed; "Armed Forces Salute," a medley, arranged by Bob Lowden; and "Clarinet Candy," by Leroy Anderson.

Also to be included in the program are "Suite" from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, a medley, by Nicholas Hooper, arranged by Jack Bullock; "Music of the Beatles," a medley, arranged by Michael Sweeney; "Our Director," by F.E. Bigelow, arranged by James Swearingen; and "Stars and Stripes Forever," by John Philip Sousa, edited and arranged by William D. Revelli.

Guest speakers for this concert will be Assemblyman Brett Davis, and Monroe Mayor Ron Marsh. Announcer will be Dave Moser. The flag presentation will be made by the Monroe Fire Department. The band is directed by Randy Schneeberger. The next free public concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 13, in the Twining Park bandshell.
