City Band concert has Celtic theme

MONROE - The Monroe City Band continues the summer concert season at 8 p.m. Monday, July 14, in the Twining Park bandshell with another free public concert. There is a Celtic flavor for this concert which features vocalist, Bill Rients and four bagpipers, Dr. Dan Stormont, Mike Ganshert, Joe Ganshert and Bob Beach.

Tunes to be included are: "Celtic Air and Dance," arranged by Michael Sweeney; "The Boys of Wexford" by Robert Dwyer Joyce, as arranged by Sammy Nestico; "The Irish Washerwoman," from the Irish Suite, by LeRoy Anderson; "Hebrides Suite," a medley, by Clare Grundman; and "Somerset," a rhapsody on Three British Folk Tunes by Gary C. White. Also, "I'se the B'y, a Swallowtail Jig," as arranged by R. Schneeberger; "Amazing Grace and Highland Cathedral," by Michael Kork and Ulrich Roever, as arranged by Ian Peaple.

The band is directed by Randy Schneeberger. The next free public concert is 8 p.m. July 28 in the Twining Park bandshell to complete the summer concert series.
