Relay for Life caregivers support group to be held in Freeport today
LENA - The Relay for Life team from St. John's Lutheran Church will participate in the Relay for Life event from 2 to 5 p.m. today at the Stephenson County Fairgrounds in Freeport.
During the day, there will be food, a DJ and games.
The church reported also that My Friend's Closet Thrift Shop was closed from April 16-21 for painting and carpeting as part of their remodeling and expansion.

Free parenting workshop at Resurrection Lutheran Church
MONROE - Resurrection Lutheran Church is bringing a professional counseling practice, In The Moment Child and Family Therapy LLC, to the church. To introduce the new practice, owner and therapist Kathleen Harwood is offering a free parenting workshop from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. today at the church.
Harwood specializes in working with children and families.
This workshop is open to the public. In The Moment Child and Family Services LLC is a ministry of Resurrection Lutheran Church.
In addition to her state licenses, Harwood is a nationally certified parenting coach and a Prepare/Enrich facilitator, focusing on premarital and marriage counseling, parenting and enrichment.

Monroe United Methodist Church to host special musical services
MONROE - United Methodist pastor Rich Rubietta from Park Ridge, Illinois, will lead three special musical services at 8, 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. May 6 at Monroe United Methodist Church.
Rubietta is a songwriter and worship consultant who conducts interactive worship experiences which include audience participation and upbeat versions of familiar hymns along with original material. He is a graduate of Northwestern University with a degree in music. He's also an Illinois Arts Council Arts Tour artist and has been offering new styles to traditional church hymns and songs.
He is married to Jane Rubietta, author of popular devotional books such as bestseller "Quiet Places," "Finding Your Dream" and "Worry Less - Live More" and is in demand as an international, cross-denominational speaker. The couple have three children.
Rich Rubietta has produced the CD "Quiet Places: God's Music to Restore Your Soul," which is a companion resource to accompany the book. The songs on the CD are meditative, musical arrangements of scriptures, one for each chapter in the book. His CD for children and the young at heart, "Room 4U and Me" received the Parents' Choice Approved award and contains character education songs from his public-school music assemblies.
Refreshments will be served afterwards and a resource table will be available to purchase books and order CDs and cassettes. For more information, contact the church office at 325-6700.

Hilltop Community Church offering pizza, movie, open door forum
ALBANY - Hilltop Community Church will hold a movie night from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church, 101 S. Jackson St. Pizza will be available from 5 to 6 p.m., with the PG-13 movie "Do You Believe?" starting after.
The church also will be observing the National Day of Prayer from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 3. Public prayer will be held at 9 a.m. and at 8 p.m. at the flag at Hilltop. The theme is "Unity" and the related Scripture verse is Ephesians 4:3. For more information about either of these events, contact Marcia Davidson at 558-3838.
The church also will be starting an "Open Door discussion and form" at 7 p.m. May 6, which will run indefinitely. During this time, scriptural and life questions will be examined and answered. Cards will be available on which to write questions, criticisms and concerns. Privacy will be maintained even in public discussion.
