MONROE - Master Cheesemakers of Green County will be making a giant wheel of Swiss cheese as it was done more than 100 years ago in the century-old Imobersteg Factory on Saturday, June 11 at the National Historic Cheesemaking Center.
The day will begin with the arrival of milk at 9 a.m. and continue into the early afternoon. The Master Cheesemakers will be assisted by retired cheesemakers and volunteers from the surrounding area.
Cream puffs and master grilled cheese sandwiches will be served at the new concession trailer located at the center on Saturday. Music will be provided by John Waelti and Henry Blumer.
The donor of the historic Imobersteg cheese factory, Arnold Imobersteg, 93, will be present to autograph the 48-minute documentary DVD "Eine Kleine Kaserei ( A Small Cheese Factory)" featuring the history of cheese, area authors, residents, cheesemakers, cheese factories including cheesemaking and the complete restoration of the Imobersteg Cheese Factory.
