NEW GLARUS — Caring For Kids, Inc. — the 501(c)(3) organization supporting the New Glarus Food For Kids Program — recently announced a generous grant that will help provide weekend food backpacks and classroom snacks for New Glarus students.
This award comes from the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin’s Frank J. Schiesser Family Fund, which has a long history of supporting initiatives in the arts, education, the environment, health and human services, and historic preservation. The Community Foundation serves as a vital resource for nonprofit organizations working to strengthen communities across the region.
Dr. Laura Eicher, Principal of New Glarus Elementary School and Board Secretary for Caring For Kids, emphasized that 100% of grant funds are used to purchase food for New Glarus students. From January through November 2025, the Food For Kids Program distributed 2,408 weekend food backpacks and 76,407 classroom snacks.
“These programs ensure students have access to nourishing food over the weekend, helping them return to school on Monday ready to learn,” Dr. Eicher said. “The Food For Kids Program supports families with dignity by providing essential food resources, and these resources are available to all New Glarus students.”
