DARLINGTON - Each November, the Lafayette County Health Department Home Care Program joins the Home Care community to celebrate National Home Care Month.
The mission of the Home Care program is to provide high-quality, compassionate and comprehensive in-home care to county residents.
Home Care allows patients to receive vital health and social services in their first-choice setting - their home. Patients are most comfortable in their home and experience the greatest sense of security, stability and belonging that often contributes to a quicker recovery.
Home Care enables patients to shorten their stay in medical facilities by providing post-acute care that would otherwise occur in the hospital.
Lafayette County's Home Care Agency was founded in 1973 with the mission of providing comprehensive in-home health and supportive services for Lafayette County's disabled and chronically ill patients. The Home Care team offers services ranging from basic personal needs and assistance with daily living to nursing and therapy intervention and advanced medical treatment. In 2008, Home Care nurses served 162 patients for skilled nursing services and 64 patients for personal care, such as baths. In one year they conducted a total of 3,543 visits to Lafayette County residents.
As part of National Home Care Month reserve special recognition for Home Care Aide Week on November 16-20. The Home Care Program thanks Kristie Lueck, Sonja Wiegel, Marian Olson, Danielle Steger, Teresa Robelia, and Erin Hastert for their continued dedication to providing in-home assistance. Their compassion and fortitude are an inspiration to all.
In addition to recognizing the work of home care providers, National Home Care Month serves to educate the public about issues affecting home care and the services available in their local communities. It is important that people let their elected officials know how important home health care is. In the difficult budget times Lafayette County is facing, such feedback to your elected officials is critical.
