MONROE - About 115 classic cars filled the downtown Aug. 28 as Main Street Monroe hosted its second car show of the year. Despite on and off rain, hundreds of visitors from the area and elsewhere took in the variety of cars from Chevy, Dodge, Ford, and others, ranging across several decades, bringing out a little bit of something for everyone.

Over the past three years, Cars on the Square, sponsored by Bartels & Co. Tap, Fuzzy's Audio and Video, and MT, has grown. This year, Main Street Monroe honored two of the founders: Ralph Jegerlehner and the family of Tom Smith. Smith's son, Todd, was on hand to receive the award on behalf of his family. Smith passed away this past year.

Attendees were also treated to a special vehicle: a 1954 Chevrolet that actually shot fire from its customized pipes. Jeremy Kisting, who runs a car club in the Platteville area, customized the car in a number of ways, including an air ride suspension.

Seven door prizes were given out to owners who brought their vehicles to the event. Door prizes were sponsored by O'Reilly's Auto Parts, L&S Truck Service and Towing, Kutter-Harley Davidson, Flanagan Shenanigans, Cash's Old Smokey, Carquest Auto Parts, and Steinmann Stainless Fab, Inc. Additional area businesses who donated items included: Suisse Haus, Minhas Brewery, Cash's Old Smokey, Heartland Graphics, Buggyworks, Great Clips, Don's Towing, Kundert Auto, NAPA, Friendly Inn, Turner Hall, Pancho and Lefty's, Doyle's Irish Pub, Corner Café, Friendly Inn and Jim Stricker Family.
