NEW GLARUS — The New Glarus School District was buzzing with innovation, collaboration, and creativity during the week of July 7-10, as it hosted Camp Invention, a nationally recognized STEM summer camp designed to inspire curiosity and confidence in young learners.
With approximately 150 elementary students enrolled, this year’s camp featured a dynamic, hands-on curriculum that empowered campers to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through imaginative problem-solving activities. Throughout the week, students built prototypes, explored circuitry, launched inventions, and practiced creative thinking — all while having fun and working together.
The success of the camp was made possible in large part due to the outstanding dedication of over 30 student volunteers who served as Leaders and Leaders in Training (LITs). These middle and high school students brought enthusiasm, professionalism, and leadership to every activity, serving as mentors and role models to younger campers. Their energy and commitment helped create a safe, engaging, and inspiring environment for all participants.
“Camp Invention is more than just a summer camp — it’s an opportunity for students to develop lifelong skills like innovation, teamwork, and resilience,” said Jeff Eichelkraut, Summer School Coordinator. “We are especially grateful to our student Leaders, Leaders in Training, and volunteers. They were simply amazing, and their support truly made this camp a success.”
Camp Invention is a nationally acclaimed summer program inspired by the National Inventors Hall of Fame. The program taps into children’s natural curiosity, giving them opportunities to become innovators through teamwork and immersive, hands-on, creative problem-solving.
The New Glarus School District offers enrichment programs like Camp Invention throughout the summer to encourage creativity and prepare students for the future. Plans are already in motion for next summer’s camp.
