BTC students look to plow competition at nationals

Several Blackhawk Technical College Professional Agriculture students excelled at the Wisconsin Professional Agricultural Students Competitive Events Conference in Minnesota March 16-21. MONROE — Blackhawk Technical College Professional Agriculture students recently competed and excelled at the Wisconsin Professional Agricultural Students Competitive Events Conference. Due to their exceptional performance, nine Blackhawk students will compete at the national contest March 16 through 21 in Minneapolis. 

Over 600 students from two- and four-year colleges will participate in the national contest, tour a number of agricultural businesses and attend educational workshops. 

Results from the WI Professional Agricultural Students Competitive Events Conference are as follows:

Karly Ready — Monticello: Impromptu Speaking, second place, national qualifier; Ag Sales Demonstration, first place, national qualifier; Employment Interviewing, Agricultural Sales, first place, national qualifier.

Nathan Hull — Gratiot: Ag Sales Demonstration, second place, national qualifier.

Denise Rankin — Belleville: Employment Interviewing, Livestock Production, second place, national qualifier; National qualifying Soils Team.

Ryan Stilen — Janesville: Ag Sales Demonstration, third place; Employment Interviewing, Fruit and Vegetable Production, first place, national qualifier; Career Planning, Plant Systems, fourth place; National qualifying Crops Team.

Emily Rowley — Evansville: Impromptu Speaking, fifth place; National qualifying Soils Team.

Casey Bennett — Orfordville: Employment Interviewing; Agribusiness Administration, first place, national qualifier.

Career Planning; Agriculture Management and Marketing, second place, national qualifier; Prepared Speaking, fourth place; National qualifying Crops Team.

Abby Krausse — Edgerton: Employment Interviewing; Agribusiness Administration, third place; National qualifying Crops Team.

Brianna Arneson — Mt. Horeb: Employment Interviewing; Fertilizer and Ag Chemical, first place, national qualifier; Agricultural Sales Demonstration, fourth place; National qualifying Soils Team.

Kalee Schaefer — Monroe: Employment Interviewing; Fertilizer and Ag Chemical, third place; Career Planning; Retail Agribusiness Systems, second place, national qualifier; National qualifying Soils Team.
