BARABOO - Twin brothers Phillip and Stanley Welton were awarded Quilts of Valor at their annual family reunion at the Baraboo Campgrounds.
They received the quilts as a surprise from their sister, Lynn Zimmerman of Monroe.
Both veterans served in Vietnam. Stanley Welton was a U.S. Marine from 1970 to 1974 and was an aviation mechanic in Vietnam, where the Marines worked to stop the southern advancement of the Viet Cong. He traveled from his home in Evergreen, Colorado, to attend the gathering. Phillip Welton served in the U.S. Navy from 1971 to 1975 in Vietnam. He ran the ship's turbines that generated the electricity for the naval vessels protecting the fighting ships and picking up downed pilots in the ocean.
