BRODHEAD - The groundbreaking ceremony for an addition to Brodhead's Historical Depot Museum will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at 1108 1st Center Avenue.
The addition is possible through a bequest from William S. "Bill" Knight, a substantial grant from the William S. Knight Foundation and support from the Brodhead Area Foundation.
The 3,700-square-foot L-shaped addition will be named in honor of William S. Knight and will include an exhibit of Knight Manufacturing artifacts and information.
The layout will create a courtyard to East 2nd Avenue, which will allow for an outdoor exhibit of a few pieces of Knight Manufacturing farm equipment. The new expansion will also include public restrooms and climate-controlled space required for proper weather-proof storage of valued collections.
The concept phase design was a gift from Dimension IV architect Jim Gersich.
The Brodhead Historical Society Board of Directors, working with Gersich, has chosen Gilbank Construction of Clinton as the building contractor.
Gilbank will try to use as many local sub-contractors as possible.
Construction is anticipated to be completed by Memorial Day 2018, when the museum opens for the summer season.
