BRODHEAD - Morgan Blum, a native of Monroe, has agreed to be the Grand Marshal for this year's Bike 4 Habitat event. Morgan has been a generous supporter of Green County Habitat for Humanity for the past two years. He has donated over $2,000 each year, which he raised by participating in a 500-mile bike ride in Minnesota where he now lives.
Together with Morgan, Green County Habitat for Humanity will host its third annual Bike 4 Habitat on May 17. This is Green County Habitat for Humanity's single largest fundraiser of the year. Last year, the event attracted cyclists all around the Midwest and raised more than $8,000. Riders are needed to make this year an even bigger success.
Consider joining as an individual, or put together a team, for a great bike ride through the rolling hills of Green County. There will be a 15, 30, 50 and 100 mile routes to meet the ability of every rider. Registration and all routes begin and end at Veterans Memorial Park in Brodhead. Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. with riders starting off around 8 a.m. The registration fee is $35 on the day of the event, ($30 in advance) and includes a free T-shirt, snacks along the routes and a meal at the end of the ride. Children, 16 and under, can ride along for free with a paid adult. Each rider is encouraged to get pledges, but it is not required.
"We really need to raise significant funds this year" said Carol Holmes, president of the Green County Habitat for Humanity board. "We just finished a home in Brodhead last week, and have committed to building two homes this summer in Browntown. "
