MONROE - The final reading session of the 2011-12 Wisconsin Bookworms Project was held the last week of school at Abraham Lincoln Accelerated Learning Academy.
Leslie Bundy presented certificates from the three support organizations: the Home, Community and Education organization; University of Wisconsin-Extension; and Wisconsin Public Television.
At a later luncheon, the readers also received numerous positive comments from parents, teachers and the community from throughout the year. Due to the returning of new and past volunteers, the program will continue under the leadership of Jan Kash for the coming year.
Anyone interested in joining may call (608) 328-9440, Kash at (608) 325-1077 or Ella Sanderson at (608) 325-6913.
The program involves one hour of volunteer work per month from October until May. The sessions are held the third Thursday of each month and a one-hour orientation will be held in the fall. Those interested in volunteer can join anytime. A mandatory background check is required every year and all readers must have this completed before they enter the classroom for the first session of 2012-13.
