DARLINGTON - The Bluebird Nest Nature Center, 308 Main St., Darlington, is planning two special events for March, at about the same time eastern bluebirds will be returning to the area to scout out nesting cavities.

Melissa Bartz and Matt Miller will be speaking at the nature center at 7 p.m. March 2. The title of their presentation is "Save Our Precious Pollinators." Bartz and Miller work for the USDA Natural Resources and Conservation Service. Attendees will learn about what can be done to help maintain pollinators.

March 16 marks the opening day of the nature center's third year. Carol McDaniel will be on hand to answer questions and present a program, entitled "Best Nest Box Mounting Practices," using a PowerPoint presentation on how to set up bluebird nest boxes. She will repeat it every half hour from 1 to 5 p.m.

Whether a veteran bluebird watcher or somebody interested in getting started, plan to come with questions. Refreshments will be served at both events. There is no charge.

The Bluebird Nest Nature Center is funded by the Lafayette County Bluebird Society, and donations are always appreciated. Nature center hours after March 16 will be 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. The center will be open on Saturdays by appointment by calling 608-776-2290.

A speaker schedule for 2016 can be picked up on March 2 or 16, or check www.lafayettecountybluebirdsociety.wordpress.com.
