MONTICELLO - The Monticello community will host a blood drive from 1 to 5 p.m. on Friday, June 18, at Zwingli United Church of Christ, 416 E. Lake Ave., Monticello, in celebration of World Blood Donor Day June 14.
World Blood Donor Day is a time to celebrate those who donate blood to help save lives without expecting anything in return and to raise awareness of the need for a safe and stable supply of blood products for patients in need.
This year the focus is on nurturing a new generation of blood donors to help ensure a stable blood supply for decades to come.
Up to 20 percent of all donations made through the American Red Cross come from high school and college blood drives. Having a committed younger generation of blood donors is vital to meeting the transfusion needs of this aging population.
