The Black Hawk High School graduation this year was held in the parking lot at the school in South Wayne May 29.
Jon Satterlee broadcasted the ceremony on D99.3 and Torrey and Sami Rood provided audio support as vehicles filled with family of each student lined the perimeter of the parking lot, honking in place of applause. Local firefighters met the class after the ceremony for a parade around town, where many sat in their lawns to wave and wish the class of 2020 well.
A cardboard cutout of school board president Kerry Holland was on hand for students to pose for a photo and principal Cory Milz announced the graduates while practicing social distancing and wearing a mask. The unique situation is due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
