MONROE - Monroe Arts Center presents the off-Broadway comedy hit "The Queen of BINGO" for one-show only on Friday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Monroe High School Performing Arts Center.
Following in the footsteps of stage shows such as "Late Night Catechism" and "Menopause the Musical" and in the tradition of the Harvey Korman and Tim Conway sketches from "The Carol Burnett Show," this comedy is about two bingo-obsessed sisters, Sis and Babe, who add a little excitement to their lives with a night out at a bingo game.
The bingo parlor divas, played by stage, screen and television actors Shane Partlow (Sis) and Rowan Joseph (Babe), gossip about diet crazes, hot flashes, romance, sibling rivalry and, of course, bingo. The elder Sis is a widow who does not plan to change her marital status anytime soon. She laments, "Who wants to go out on a date? ...no thanks, once was enough for me." Babe is the younger sister who is diet crazy, brassy, divorced and has an issue with her weight. She bemoans the fact that she's on the "verge of a size 18," just when the local high school football coach has asked her out to the homecoming celebration.
Rounding out the cast is Kevin Horton who plays the role of Father MacKenzie Muldoon and the caller.
This show also incorporates the "Middle Bird Special" where the audience gets to join in the fun with a bingo game of their own and the winner gets a 10-pound frozen turkey.
Reserved seat tickets for The Queen of BINGO (rated PG) are $35, $25, $20, and $15.
Tickets may be purchased by calling the Monroe Arts Center at 608-325-5700 or in person at the box office located at 1315 11th St. More information about this performance and other MAC events can be found online at www.monroeartscenter.com.
