BELMONT - On April 27, youth from Lafayette and Iowa counties joined together to perform their talents at the Belmont High School. Youth from both counties could perform in a variety of creative areas. In the music area, youth could perform a piano solo or duet, a vocal solo or duet, or an instrumental solo or duet. Other categories were: communication arts, photography and visual arts. In the visual arts category, some examples included colored pencil drawings, mixed media, leather, oil acrylics, clay, ceramics, charcoal, fibers and watercolors. Another part of the Day in the Arts is communication arts. This category includes areas such as demonstrations, interpretive reading of prose or poetry and writing and giving speeches. Judges offered feedback to the youth on each entry, and each youth received a ribbon of participation. Merit awards were also selected and announced.
