WISCONSIN DELLS — Belmont native Emma Buss competed against Fairest of the Fairs from across the state to place fifth at the Wisconsin State Fair Convention earlier this month.

Buss participated in a grueling four-day contest against the best-of-the-best, and truly made Lafayette County proud. Throughout the week she answered questions in front of large crowds, participated in a discussion meet, interviewed with three different judges, wrote and recorded radio ads and more. In a banquet held to commence the convention, she was announced as a top 10 finalist. Following the awards ceremony, the judges announced the top five, and again Buss’ name was read.

Contestants were judged on involvement, personality, professionalism, public speaking and their ability to answer impromptu questions.

In her free time, you’ll find her working on the family dairy farm, judging cattle for several different organizations and she just finished serving her two-year term on the Wisconsin Junior Holstein Association activities committee.

Buss is a 20-year-old attending the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, double majoring in agribusiness and dairy science.

Her reign as 2019-20 Lafayette County Fairest of the Fair continues through this year’s fair. See her each day of the five-day event July 15-19 in Darlington.
