Senior center plans classes and events
MONROE — The Behring Senior Center has numerous activities and classes planned. Arrangements to participate can be made by calling the senior center at 325-31743 or to stop at the center reception desk. Participants must pre-register for all programs, including free ones, so staff will know how many will be attending. All classes and activities are for people age 55 and older.
Classes
An iPad Basics class will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sept. 13. Participants will learn how the cloud works with an iPad. The class is limited to 10 people. Robin McLeisch will be the instructor.
How to Sell Online will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Oct. 12. Participants will learn how to sell household good and other items online. Robin McLeisch will be the instructor.
A holiday newsletter class will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 29. Participants will learn how to jazz up holiday newsletters just in time before the holiday rush. Robin McLeisch will be the instructor.
A mixed media girls painting class will be help from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sept. 27. Participants will use fun new techniques and colors to create an 8x10 project. The class is limited to 15 participants and will be taught by Tracy Signer.
Pinterest craft classes will focus on recycling items from home and turning them into works of art. Those signing up for all four classes will get a discount. The instructor will be Liz Sorn. All Classes start at 1 p.m. T-shirt scares will be Sept. 18. Utensil wind chimes will be Oct. 23.
A quilt class will be held on Oct. 9, 16, 23, and 30. Come to the first class to see the samples. All classes are from 1 to 4 p.m. Tereesa Schroeder will be the instructor. The class is limited to 15 participants.
Conversational German will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. from Oct. 24 to Nov. 19 with classes each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Participants will learn the simple ways to have a basic conversation in German. Richard Benesh will be instructing.
The Purple Vessel sign painting class will be held Sept. 20 beginning at 12:30 p.m. Participants will have the choice to make a Green Bay Packers sign, a Badgers sign, a “Believe there is good” sign or a “Come sit with me” sign. Participants have until Sept. 17. To choose a sign and must pay in advance.
Events
• There will be no monthly veteran’s breakfast in September. The next breakfast will be held on Oct. 3 with a special Badger Honor Flight video.
• Nov. 7 is also a special Veteran’s breakfast with Quilts of Valor presentation. Breakfasts are from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
• Mary Helen Conroy will present the program “The Courage to Age: Say YES to life!” at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 10. Conroy will discuss that waking up to say “YES” in the morning is the best courageous act that aging people have.
• “Garbo The Musical” is an original one-woman musical by Jillann Gabrielle about the famous Greta Garbo, presented at 2 p.m. Sept. 11.
• A screening of the movie CHAPPAQUIDDICK will run at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 18. The movie tells the story of two people who took a wrong turn, both literally and figuratively. Two people went into the water and only one came out alive. The movie is rated PG-13 and run time is 107 minutes. It may contain graphic language.
• Jessica Michna will perform Frances Cleveland and teach about the youngest first lady to ever live in the White House and what her public life was like. It will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 26.
• A men’s mini trip to the World Dairy Expo will take place on Oct. 3. The bus will be leaving at 9 a.m. and returning around 5 p.m.
• The Southern Wisconsin Rock Prairie Dulcimers will provide a free band concert at 2 p.m. on Oct. 16.
• Rebecca Hom will tell the story of the WASP, a civilian force of 1,100 women pilots who became the first females to fly military aircraft. The program will begin at 10 a.m. on Oct. 27 in the Monroe Public Library.
• Jillann Gabrielle will return with a second show about the life and times of performer Hedda Hopper. The performance will begin at 2 p.m. on Oct. 30.
• The golf outing from the August newsletter has been rescheduled for Oct. 3 at the Monroe Country Club.
• A representative from Mayflower tours will preview the 2019 Italy trip at 11 a.m. on Oct. 5.
