MONROE — The Behring Senior Center has numerous activities and classes planned. Arrangements to participate can be made by calling the senior center at 325-3173 or stop at the center reception desk. Participants must pre-register for all programs, including free ones, so staff will know how many will be attending. All classes and activities are for people 55 and older.


Classes

●   A beaded snowflake ornament class will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on July 24 with Bonita Loeffel. There is a cost for this class and limited to eight people.

●   A computer basics class will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Aug. 15 with Robin McLeish. This very basic computer class is for beginners. Do not bring your laptop or tablet. There is a cost for this class and limited to eight people.

●   A senior self defense class will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 16 with Timm Burns. A mix of discussions and hands on training. Wear loose clothing, no shorts, and tennis shoes. There is a cost for this class and a limit of 12 people.


Events

●   Every Tuesday the card game “Horse and Pepper” will be at 1 p.m. 

●    Breakfast for all Veterans and spouses ages 55 and over will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on June 5. Do not come before 8 a.m. The next breakfast will be July 3.

●   There will be two movies held in June, the first; “The Founder,” will be at 1:30 p.m. on June 6 and the second; “Suffragette,” will be at 1:30 p.m. on June 27.

●   Thrift shopping madness will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on June 17 and June 19. There is a cost for transportation and a limit of 20 people.

●   Forgetfulness fun will be at 1 p.m. on June 18 with Ted Scheffer. 

●   A summer ice-cream social will be held at 1 p.m. on June 21. There is a cost for this event.

●   A financial series by Edward Jones will be held at 11:30 a.m. with Fraud Awareness on June 27 and Market Volatility on July 23. Lunch will be provided.

●   A ladies day out to Rotary Gardens in Janesville will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 1. There will be a two-hour guided tour with walking and spots for resting. Some wheelchairs and walkers will be available. Lunch will be on your own. There is a cost for the bus and tour and a limit of 20 people.

●   A men’s day out at Old World Wisconsin will be from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 8. Will stop at Double B Farms for breakfast then a 75-minute tram tour. There is a cost for this event.

●    Songs of Life by Rich Baumann will be at 1:30 p.m. on July 9. 

●    A program on the book “Children, Save Yourselves” will be held at 1 p.m. July 23. A true story of two Jewish brothers who survived the Holocaust.

●    Chair activity bingo will be held at 1:30 p.m. on July 30 with Bridget.
