MONROE — The Behring Senior Center has numerous activities and classes planned. Arrangements to participate can be made by calling the senior center at 325-3173 or at the center reception desk. Participants must pre-register for all programs, including free ones. All activities are for people 55 and older.
Classes
● A computer class will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. April 9. Learn how to sell on eBay with Robin McLeish. There is a cost and is limited to eight.
● A knitting class will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Mondays from April 29 through May 20 with Jocelyn Kline. This class will take you from the basics and beyond. There is a limit of eight people and there is a cost.
● An AARP driver safety course will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 9. This class is a refresher course of road rules. Please bring your AARP card. There is a cost for this class and check to see if it is covered by your insurance.
Events
● The Senior Center will be having Cornhole starting April 1. Take turns throwing bean bags at a raised platform with a hole. No sign up needed.
● Breakfast for Veterans and spouses ages 55 and over will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on April 3. The next breakfast will be May 1. Four Quilts of Valor will be given: Allen Broge, LaVern Isely, Duane Rackow and Ronald Strub.
● A series of financial programs presented by Edward Jones will be held at 11:30 a.m. on March 12 and April 9. Edward Jones will provide lunch to all who participate.
● The movie “Won’t You Be My Neighbor” will be at 1:30 p.m. on April 16. A documentary on Mister Rogers, a portrait of a man who inspired generations of children.
● The movie “Mad Money” will be at 1:30 p.m. on April 23. Three women cook up the most unlikely heist from deep inside the most secure bank in America smuggling millions of worn-out bills headed to a shredder.
● An “Over the Rainbow” program will be held at 1:30 p.m. April 30. Craig Siemsen will perform popular songs from the 1930’s through the 1960’s. Limit of 85 people.
● Dental MythBusters will be from 1 to 1:45 p.m. May 6 with Dr. Laura Hibbard. Learn how a healthy mouth affects your whole body.
● “The Golden Spike” 150th Anniversary will be at 1 p.m. May 7 with Paul Schoenike. Take a closer look at what went into completing the Transcontinental Railroad.
● George Washington and Fort Necessity, a program presented by Jim Glessner will start at 1:30 p.m. on May 22 and will feature its own special (non-alcoholic) drink.
● The Behring Senior Center and the Wisconsin Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired will be hosting a full day of programs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 30. We will break for lunch at 12:15 p.m. The movie will be at 1:30 p.m.
