Beers Honored
NEW GLARUS - Francis Beers, Comman-der of AMVET Post No. 69 at New Glarus, was named Wisconsin AMVET of the Year during the Saturday evening banquet at the Wisconsin State Convention June 25-27 in Manitowoc.

Beers' accomplishments to earn this honor include having served in the Marines during the Atomic testing period in the state of Nevada. He speaks often in school and to groups on "An Atomic Veteran's Experience in the Foxhole."

Beers later served with the Wisconsin Air Guard. He has recruited extensively to bring the post to 140 percent of 2009 membership.

He has been a blood donor, leader in White Clover drives, Salvation Army Red Kettle bell ringer, assisted with the "Shop with a Cop" program, visits homebound and nursing home bound veterans and delivered flowers and food baskets to members and family members at times of illness or death on behalf of the post.

Beers has encouraged the post to collect food for the area food pantry. He invited Ron Foster, chairman of the Veteran's Memorial Park development, to present a progress report on the project in which AMVETS Post No. 69 will be an active participant.
