DARLINGTON - Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will host Band-Aid 2, a fundraiser featuring six local bands beginning at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3 at Bridges Banquet Center in Darlington.
"Last year's event was such a huge success, that we decided to bring it back for another year.
"Our local talent is incredible and all the bands have been so willing to help out," said Terri Baxter, auxiliary president. Each band has donated their time to the auxiliary and will entertain for approximately 60 minutes.
"Elypsys" features R.J. Fisher, Ethan Glendenning, Josh Singer and Braden Zywicki. These high school students will open for the evening and perform with their medley of metal and rock tunes.
The "Swamp Bottom Boys" are a six-member local band that features a variety of music, including country, rock, blues, harmony, and gospel. Instrumental members are: Johnny "Flash" Carrington, guitar, and bookings manager; Barb Nemec, fiddle, banjo and bass; Robert "Dr. Bob" Falsey, guitar; and Mark "Majik" Johnson, bass. Heading up vocals with Johnson are Gene Montgomery, and Tim "Bucket" Pehl.
The "Stump Fiddle Band" uses instruments all their own. They provide a down-home, easy style of classic, country and gospel hits. Band members include Rick Loken, Barb Nemec, Greg McGowan, Dick Black and Dick White.
"Just One More" of Benton features Aaron Erdenberger and Steve Malone playing a wide range of music, from 50s and 60s to current Top 40; from rock and roll, and heavy metal, to country and ballads.
"Transition" was formed in 1985 by four Darlington High School graduates. The group dabbled with a little country music, but has focused more on music from the Beatles, John Cougar, and other 60s-80s groups. Members of Transition are Jim Jacobson, guitar; Rich Leinberger, bass guitar and keyboards; Dave McGranahan, guitar; and Steve Fitzsimons, drums, performing classic rock songs.
"Sunshine" is described as a power trio of guitar, electric bass and drums. The three members are Tom Bussan, Bill Eaton and Mike Dunbar. The group has been together playing 50 weekends a year since 1975. The music presented by the group represents hits from the late 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s blended with traditional and contemporary country music.
"Band-Aid 2" will also feature food, a 50/50 raffle, and "Trees for a Cause", a silent auction of fully decorated Christmas trees. Proceeds from the tree auction will go towards a fetal monitor for the obstetrics department.
Doors open at 4 p.m. the night of the event. Tickets are on sale now for $8 in advance at Memorial Hospital, First National Bank of Darlington, First Banking Center-Darlington, Citizens Bank, and Benton State Bank and $10 at the door the night of the event. All proceeds will benefit Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County as the auxiliary addresses comfort needs of patients, community and staff.
