Deciduous trees in the region — like oak, maple and hickory trees — have begun the process of shedding their leaves in preparation for winter. During the autumn season, the leaves change their colors, changing the canopy above homes, streets and the forest floor to a sea of yellows reds, oranges and more before the leaves ultimately fall to the ground. While the process shows that autumn and winter are nearing, temperatures this past week have been more representative of mid-summer, with high temperatures in the mid- to upper-80s. According to the National Weather Service, high temperatures are supposed to continue to sit in the 80s through Cheese Days weekend (Sept. 20-22), before returning to the 70s the following week.
