ATV safety course planned for April 18

MONROE - The Green County Sheriff's Department invites all individuals interested in recreational all-terrain vehicle riding to enroll in the ATV Safety Course on April 18 and 19. DNR certified ATV safety instructors will teach the class. To complete the course, students must attend both days and all hours of instruction. The course fee is $10 which covers all necessary materials.

Class times and dates are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 18, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at the Green County Pleasant View auditorium.

Advance registration is required by calling Lieutenant Dick Wyttenbach at 328-9617. Class size is limited.

Students must be at least 11 years old (age 12 by Dec. 31) to enroll. There is no maximum age and parents are encouraged to enroll and participate. Anyone who is at least 12 years old and born after Jan. 1, 1988, requires this certificate to ride an ATV on any public area (trails, frozen waters, routes, permitted county and forest lands).

Classes cover TV safety features, pre-ride inspection, basic riding skills, protective gear, rules and regulations, ethics, responsibility and handling outdoor emergencies.

Students with special needs should contact the instructor in advance of the class to request special accommodations.
