Art Walk Monroe Returns to Historic Downtown Monroe
Art Walk 2023

MONROE — Area visual artists will be coming to Monroe from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 19 to the historic downtown square and the Main Street area to exhibit and sell their works of art.

Twenty Main Street Monroe businesses will be hosting the artists. Maps will be provided to help guide attendees. Jewelry, clay, paintings, mixed media, and more will be included in this juried Art Walk. Artists will be from the Green County area, plus a few invited artists will also participate in the second Main Street Monroe Art Walk.

After visiting the art makers, the visitors can vote for People’s Choice award for their favorite exhibit. Voting ballots will be on the bottom of the maps.

The event, which was first held last year, turned out to be a big hit, attracting visitors from near and far, according to Main Street Monroe Executive Director Jordan Nordby.

“The opportunity to meet the artists, talk to them, explore the shops and enjoy visiting the surroundings and areas businesses around our historic Square was wonderful,” Tina Duemler said.

Duemler originally partnered with Jocelyn Kline, owner of Orange Kitten Yarns, to bring the event to fruition. The emphasis on Green County has been a source of pride for the committee, which notes there is so much talent in Green County.

“It really has been a beautiful thing to highlight,” Nordby said. “The number of extremely talented artists in the area has not necessarily been cultivated. It’s just existed. Creativity attracts creativity, and it’s been really exciting to make this event happen and spotlight this aspect of our region.”

The event, which is free to attend, is a highlight for Main Street Monroe, which also runs the outdoor farmers market through the end of this month. Additional upcoming events include Trunk or Treat from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27, and the ticketed Wine Walk on Thursday, Nov. 7.
