BLANCHARDVILLE

Sons group offers knitting social

BLANCHARDVILLE - Sons of Norway Vennelag 513 will meet April 28, 2011 in Blanchardville at the Legion Hall. The general public is invited to attend. Light refreshments and social time will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a brief business meeting and program on knitting. Members are encouraged to wear a Norwegian sweater for a group photo.

Knitting has long been an important part of Norwegian culture.

Jean Busker from Monroe will share her expertise for the program that will serve as a kick-off to the formation of a knitting circle. Anyone who wants to learn the basics, or work on an already-started project, can call 845-9423 for more details.

Those attending are invited to bring examples of knitting or hardanger embroidery for the display table.

Freeport

Celebration at church reopening

FREEPORT - The Richland Free Methodist Church, 3872 West Richland Road, Freeport, will hold an anniversary service for Pastor Lyle Babcock and his wife, Ruth, at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, May 1.The couple will celebrate 49 years together. Dave and Duska Ruter, a country and contemporary gospel music duo, will present a 30-minute concert. After the service, a potluck dinner will be held at noon. The church is located between Red Oak Road and Scheider Road, and two and a half miles northwest of Red Oak, Ill.

Albany

New members introduced

ALBANY - Six new members were recently inducted into the Albany Chapter of the National Honor Society. They were: Taylor Bechen, Patrick Deegan, Julia Farley, Chad Helland, Lillian Horn and John Kallgren.

Membership into NHS is based on scholarship, leadership, character and service. To be selected, students must have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA, be a positive role model in school, show good leadership skills, and be actively involved in school and community service activities. Members are expected to continue to lead by example and be of service to others. They are actively involved in a variety of activities throughout the year. Other NHS members include: Rosy Bauman, Sydney Bump, Megan Farley, Ingrid Kallgren, Joshua Krueger, Drew Mather, Courtney Pfeuti, Joseph Blumer, Ciara Kubesh, KayLee Johnson and Ty Mauerman.

MONROE

Program offers Bible study, fun

MONROE - First Baptist Church, 853 31st Ave., has started a Friday night children's program on April 15 at Northside Elementary school gym. The children's program allows a fun activity for children at any age. There program is free.

The program will also offer a free spaghetti supper at 6 p.m. April 17 at 6 p.m. for kids.First Baptist is offering to pick up kids on the church bus for those who need a ride and will drop them off between 8:30 and 9 p.m. Activiites include interactive sports, team activities, bible lessions and song time.
