Trees available for order until Dec. 31

MONROE - The Green County Land and Water Conservation Department is offering eight varieties of hardwood trees and two varieties of shrubs at a discounted price for landowners interested in planting trees this spring 2011. The tree varieties are: burr oak, red oak, white oak, black cherry, sugar maple, shagbark hickory, hackberry and butternut. Shrubs available are: serviceberry and hazel nut. The cost is $2 per tree with a minimum order of 10 of one species.

Trees can be ordered by contacting the LWCD directly by phone, walk-in, or by ordering through the Green County website. For information about the trees or how to order, call (608) 325-4195. Orders will be taken through Friday, Dec. 31. Scheduled delivery of trees is the week of April 18.

GCHS has special price on cats

MONROE - The Green County Humane Society, Monroe, has many cats and kittens looking for loving families this holiday season. Beginning Dec. 5, the adoption fee for cats of all ages will be reduced to $5.

All animals are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, de-wormed, treated with flea/tick medication, and tested for feline leukemia, FIV, and ringworm.

An adoption application and approval is required. This holiday special will only last through Dec. 21.
