'Goin' for B'roque' recitals set

MONROE - "Goin' for B'roque" is the theme for the next in a series of quarterly organ mini-recitals called Midday Masterworks, scheduled for 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 27 at the Monroe United Methodist Church of Monroe.

The program will be repeated the same day at 5:30 p.m. at St. Victor Catholic Church, Monroe.

The program will feature music for organ from the Baroque period by Buxtehude, Janitsch, J.S. Bach and Pachelbel, including the last piece Bach, while on his deathbed, dictated to his son-in-law, as well a a transcription of Pachelbel's well-known "Canon in D."

Free and open to the public, the half-hour programs are played by Deborah Krauss Smith, organist/director of music at St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe.

Social Security program offered

MONROE - Associated Bank will sponsor a free program on Social Security at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 27 at Twining Valley 55+ Retirement Community.

The program will feature Monique Villanova from Western Southern Life.
