Art museum hosts summer workshop

FREEPORT - The Freeport Art Museum is offering a number of workshops this summer for the beginning or the seasoned artist. The workshops are being held on June 4 and 11 and July 9 and 10.

Class subjects include acrylics, open-air painting, and drip and splash painting. Workshops will be taught on site, at the Freeport Art Museum and off site at Krape Park, by professional artists Maureen Gasek and Janet Checker. Prices for the workshops range from $10 to $90 for members and $15 to $100 for non-members.

The Freeport Art Museum is located at 121 N. Harlem Ave., Freeport, and is open Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free, and donations are welcome.

Church rummage sale on June 11

ALBANY - A rummage/garage/plant sale fundraiser will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at the Gap Church Community Hall. The event is intended to help cover the costs of repairs needed to the community hall, which was damaged by ice dams during the winter and is in need of repair.

Donation are tax deductible. Pick up of items also may be arranged. Some restrictions will apply. An open house will be held in conjunction with this event.

The Gap Church and cemetery are located four miles west of Albany on Wisconsin 59.

Club to host the Green Co. Open

MONROE - The Monroe Country Club, 2205 21st. St., Monroe, will host the 2011 Green County Open for members and non-members on June 11.

The 36-hole stroke play gross tournament will start with a first-round shotgun start at 8 a.m. Lunch will follow the first round, with the second-round shotgun start at 1:30 p.m.

There will be men's, women's and senior divisions, and an official U.S. Golf Association handicap is required.

The entry fee for the tournament is $35 for members and $65 for non-members. Entry fee includes 36 holes, lunch and prizes. Carts are optional and cost $18 for the entire 36-hole tournament.

Letter carriers help feed the hungry

MONROE - As part of the annual National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, Monroe postal carriers recently collected 7,702 pounds of non-perishable food donations left by mailboxes, which were delivered to Monroe Food Pantry.

"For 19 years, the Postal Service has stood proudly to help Stamp Out Hunger in America," Monroe Postmaster Gene Naumann said in a press release.

Stamp Out Hunger - the nation's largest one-day food drive - annually collects non-perishable food to help more than 35 million people, including 12 million children, who face hunger every day in America.
