Scouts to collect for food pantry
MONROE - Collection day for the annual Scouting for Food drive benefiting the Green County Interfaith Food Pantry will begin at 8:30 a.m., Saturday March 19. That morning, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venture Scouts, together with other youth organizations, will be taking to the streets in Monroe to pick up donations and deliver them to the pantry.
Donations should be placed by 8:30 a.m. on the front step where they can be seen from the street. It should be in a grocery bag for easier collection.
If a donation has not been picked up by noon, call the Green County Food Pantry at (608) 329-7511 or drop off the donation at the Monroe food pantry. Donations may also be left at grocery stores or area churches.
Local Scouts, together with Scouts for throughout the Blackhawk Area Council, B.S.A., will be participating in this one day, "Good Turn," and hope to collect 100,000 food items for local pantries.

Historical society to meet March 24
MONTICELLO - The Monticello Historical Society general meeting will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 24 at Zwingli Church, North Room, 416 E. Lake Ave, Monticello.
Guest speakers will be Ed and Donna Riese, Monticello. Ed Riese will discuss growing up in "Jim Town" and Donna Riese will be speak on growing up in Washington Township. The meeting is open to the public.

Trail closed during bridge project
FREEPORT - Beginning today, the Jane Addams Trail under the Illinois 20 bypass will be closed while a new highway bridge is under construction. Trail users will not be able to access the trail from the current Wes Block Trailhead.
Access to the Jane Addams Trail will be provided at a temporary trailhead parking lot located on the north side of the bypass near Fairview Road. Drivers can reach the temporary parking area from Illinois 26 by turning west on Fairview Road at the Kent Bank intersection and traveling about one mile.
This Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) project is part of grading and bridge construction for completing the four-lane Bypass between Illinois 26 and AYP Road. It is expected that the trail detour will be in effect through this summer construction season.
When the trail under Bypass 20 re-opens this fall, riders will be able to continue riding as far as Illinois 26 near the Baymont Inn and Suites Hotel on a new paved path being completed this spring in conjunction with the new frontage road south of the bypass to Heine Road.

Advance Directives programs planned
MONROE - Sarah Endicott, GNP-BC, Adult Medicine-Geriatrics, will present a program titled "Advance Directives" at 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 21, at Twining Valley Community Room and again at 1 p.m., on Thursday, April 28 at the Behring Senior Center.
The program will include information on living wills and other tools that help minimize uncertainty in all healthcare decisions.
