Optimist fishing clinic is May 5
MONROE - The Monroe Optimist Club will host the Optimist Fishing Clinic from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5 for boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 13.
The club will meet at 9 a.m. at the Monroe Public Library, 925 16th Ave., and travel by bus to Lake Montesian, Monticello.
The group will fish, eat lunch and raffle off prizes to all the kids. Transportation, prizes and lunch will be provided, but participants will need to bring their own fishing equipment and bait.

History of rails to be discussed
MONROE - Daphne Stassin will be unable to speak as planned at the Green County Genealogical Society meeting when it meets at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5 in the upper level of the Monroe Public Library, 925 16th Ave.
In her place, Tom Mitchell will speak on the history of laying railroads in Monroe and Brodhead. The meeting will also include final plans for the move of the research center.
