ARGYLE - Argyle will celebrate Heritage Day Saturday at the historic Saxton House site at 204 N. State St.

Free events hosted by Historic Argyle will celebrate local history through crafts. Various local crafters will have booths celebrating the history of the area. This will include model trains, candle-dipping, vintage jewelry, antique tools, spinners and carding wool. Free appraisals of antique jewelry and tools will be available.

Exhibitor booths and Saxton House tours will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Saxton House is the boyhood home of Robert LaFollette. The Historic Argyle logo and essay winners from the Argyle school district will be announced. The Fever River Band will provide music throughout the afternoon, and a silent auction will be held during the day with bidding ending at 5 p.m. Food and beverages will be available throughout the afternoon.

Historic Argyle Inc. was formed to preserve, protect and promote the cultural heritage and architectural history of the people and places of Argyle. The organization began in the fall of 1999 with three people. A casual conversation, which began with "something should be done to save the old Saxton House," blossomed into a full-fledged effort at restoration. Visit the new website at www.historicargyle.org.
