MONROE — The Arc of Wisconsin is celebrating the anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act in Wisconsin. They have encouraged local Arc groups to hold an event to remember and acknowledge the disabled in all communities.
History of Americans With Disabilities Act
On July 26, 1990, President George H.W. Bush signed into law the Americans With Disabilities Act. This prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in employment, transportation, public accommodations, commercial facilities, telecommunications, and state and local government services.
Arc of Green County
The Arc of Green County has a long history of helping disabled citizens in the county. Greenco Industries was established to give employment to those who are able and willing to work. Working with local businesses to provide employment is an on-going concern and duty. The Arc gives grants to the community for school needs, rec. dept. needs, and individual needs. Taxi costs for wheel chair impaired are reduced because of an Arc grant. The Arc works with Habitat For Humanity for special needs. Social events are sponsored by the Arc of Green County. There are dances and field trip outings.
Greenco also provides for special events and outings. Special Olympics of Green County provides athletic events and competitions with Special Olympics of Wisconsin for those who enjoy sports and teamwork.
