History of Americans With Disabilities Act

On July 26, 1990, President George H.W. Bush signed into law the Americans With Disabilities Act.  This prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in employment, transportation, public accommodations, commercial facilities, telecommunications, and state and local government services.

Arc of Green County

The Arc of Green County has a long history of helping disabled citizens of our county.  Greenco Industries was established to give employment to those who are able and willing to work.  Working with local businesses to provide employment is an on-going concern and duty.  The Arc gives grants to the community for school needs, rec. dept. needs, and individual needs.  Taxi costs for any with a disability are free because of an Arc grant.  The Arc works with Habitat For Humanity for special needs.  Social events are sponsored by the Arc of Green County.  There are dances and field trip outings.

Local Agencies To Be Thanked

Green County Human Services and the ADRC (Aging and Disability Resource Center) are essential helpers.  The Arc of Green County gives grants to schools, recreation facilities, individuals, and businesses to help the disabled in Green County.  They also sponsor social dances and outings,  Green County Special Olympics provides social and athletic events.  Greenco provides employment opportunities.  Many Monroe businesses also provide employment to disabled.
