MONTICELLO — The Monticello Area Historical Society (MAHS) will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 24 in the Zwingli UCC Lounge, 416 E. Lake Ave., Monticello.
After a brief MAHS business meeting, Bob Block, who is a member of the Oregon Area Historical Society, will give a presentation entitled “Wisconsin POW Camps.” Most people are unaware that Wisconsin had POW (Prisoners of War) camps during WWII and are surprised to learn that there were 39 of them having a total of approximately 20,000 POWs. This presentation will give an overview of U.S. POWs camps and Wisconsin POW camps. The presentation tells interesting stories of those who may have lived in a community that once had a POW camp, those who worked side by side with POWs and those who were once prisoners in a POW camp. The presentation should be informative, educational and entertaining.
This is a free presentation and the public is welcome.
