MONROE — Susan H. McFadden will share how to live well with dementia at the Understanding Alzheimer’s Disease Workshop from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at United Methodist Church, 2227 4th Street, Monroe.
McFadden will describe how living well with dementia can be achieved through focusing on the strengths and dignity of people living with dementia. She will give examples of new approaches to living with dementia based on her many years of experience as founder of the Fox Valley Memory Project.
Neurologist Dr. Joshua Morrison and Cindy Keller, MSW from the Monroe Clinic will present “Keeping it Real: The Truths and Myths about Alzheimer’s Treatments,” offering a better understanding of the different types of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease; what medications can be used to manage dementia. Dr. Morrison will also provide an update on the latest research. He has a background in the treatment of diseases and disorders of the brain, spinal cord and nervous system such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s.
Breakout sessions will be offered on topics related to the needs of caregivers and people with memory loss. Heather Moore, Dementia Outreach Specialist for the Alzheimer’s & Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin, will present a workshop “Let’s Talk Caregiver to Caregiver.” Moore’s session will give caregivers an outlet to share experiences with others caring for someone on the Alzheimer’s journey.
The Alzheimer’s & Dementia Alliance, the Aging & Disability Resource Center, and Monroe Clinic have partnered to offer family members, direct care workers and professionals this opportunity to learn the latest information in dementia care.
