MONROE - The 13th annual Green County Alzheimer's Walk is on Saturday, Sept. 7. The event will feature a two-mile or golden-mile walk to support people with Alzheimer's disease and the Alzheimer's and Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by the walk at 8:30 a.m. at the Behring Senior Center, 1113 10th St. Honorary guests include Medical Chairperson Dr. Vincent Lee, geriatrician at Monroe Clinic; Family Chairperson Mary Coppens, owner of Mary's Unique Boutique in New Glarus; and Honorary Chairperson John "Sly" Sylvester from WEKZ 93.7.

Alzheimer's disease affects more than 5 million people in the United States today, with more than 110,000 people in Wisconsin. Proceeds from the event allowed the ADAW to provide 790 care consultations, 200 support group meetings, 197 education programs and respond to 1,800 helpline calls, reaching 19,212 people in 2012. Last year's event raised almost $35,000 and organizers hope to exceed $40,000 in 2013.
