ALBANY - Albany students recently participated in the Wisconsin School Music Association Solo and Ensemble in Barneveld.

The Solo and Ensemble program takes place at various schools throughout the state in the late winter months. Vocalists and instrumentalists prepare solos or ensembles to be performed at these festivals. Students receive comments and scores from licensed WSMA adjudicators. The pieces students can choose from are grouped into three classes: A, B and C, with A being the most challenging.

Participants in the district festival included Caden Maire, Lauren Blumer, Ivy Horn, Austin Detra, Katie Trapp, Emma Guenther, Maddie Halverson, Kelsey Hoesly, Lily Larson, Rylee McKittrick, Jacey Lyons, Brittney Vine, Jasmine Marcellus, Monona Hennessey, Lilly Baertschi, Julie Baertschi, Cecilia Larson, Rhylie Gough, and Salynne Pendergrass. All the events received outstanding ratings of 1s and 2s.

Blumer, Hoesly and Trapp all received one-star ratings on their class A pieces, making them eligible to perform in the State Solo and Ensemble, which will be held April 29 at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
