Albany library offers summer programs

ALBANY - Register now through June 10 for the 2016 "On Your Mark, Get Set, Read" summer library program at Albertson Memorial Library in Albany. The program runs about seven weeks between June 15 and Aug. 5.

This summer's offerings include a weekly storytime on Wednesday mornings for children entering 4K and younger; a passive reading program that includes incentive prizes and a weekly T-shirt drawing for those entering kindergarten through fourth grades; a five-week "Learn Spanish from Stories" program to teach letters, numbers and basic Spanish greetings and phrases to elementary learners; and a summer teen book club.

Special events include hula-hoop decorating, a magic and balloon show and Jump Rope for Literacy. There will also be craft evenings for adults, as well as financial classes and nutrition information sessions.

A complete calendar of summer events and a link to register online is available at www.albertsonlibrary.org/summer-library-program. Anyone interested may also register between 1 and 7 p.m. weekdays at the Albertson Memorial Library, 200 N. Water St.

The first scheduled event is an "Amazing Animal Athletes" nature program led by Welty Environmental Center at 1 p.m. June 15 at the library.
