ALBANY — Abby Hollis held her 4th annual Comet Classic 3 on 3 Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 2. There were 33 teams and 130 players from Albany, Argyle, Barneveld, Belleville, Blanchardville, Brodhead, Edgerton, Madison, Monroe, Monticello, Mount Horeb, Parkview, Sauk Prairie, and Stoughton.
Abby is a 2025 graduate of Albany High School where she was a member of the Albany Comets and Albany-Monticello Space Stallions girls basketball teams. (Albany and Monticello formed a co-op her junior year). She is a three time basketball conference champion, four time regional champion, two time sectional champion and state champion in 2024. That year she hit a three with just seconds left in the championship game to send the game into OT where she hit another one to secure the win. It was the first state championship for Albany and happened in the first year of the co-op.
In her sophomore year, she set school records in single season points, three pointers in a single game, three pointers in a season, and three pointers in a career (which she built on for two more years). She earned all-state and all conference accolades, qualified for the WIAA 3-point contest twice (competed once as the other year she was playing at state), was the Prep Girls Hoops State Tournament MVP in 2024, and the WBCA All-Star three point champion in 2025.
As a WBCA Girls All-Star she lead all fundraisers with $6,600. In high school she also participated in Track and Field, Cross Country and Volleyball.
Abby is currently a double major in Sport Management and Business at Clarke University where she is a guard on the women’s basketball team.
Abby started the Comet Classic four years ago with another teammate to raise funds for the community. As that teammate moved on, Abby became the sole tournament director last year. She runs the tournament, securing sponsors and teams, marketing the event, making team and volunteer schedules, designing and ordering shirts, and running the event on the day of.
From raising $1,888 in 2022, and $3,866 in 2023 to $5,300 in 2024 and $6,933 this year she has raised just under $18,000 for her community. The funds are donated to youth programs and initiatives. To date she has donated to the Albany Sports Boosters, Albany Junior Comet Basketball League, the Albany Music Boosters, the Albany-Monticello Girls Basketball team.
She has created a scholarship (new this year) and an avenue for just in time donation requests through her website https://cometclassic.weebly.com.
She was expected to determine where her large donations will go during November. This season, she donated the admissions and tip-jar proceeds to a local Albany Middle Student (Erin) who is battling Ewing Sarcoma.
She plans to update her website and socials this offseason before next year’s event.
