ALBANY - At Albany High School, students take many required classes and some electives. This year a new opportunity has allowed students to expand their educational experience as they choose to participate in special activities during the FLEX period.
FLEX is a 38-minute time period at the end of the day during which class meetings are held, ACT preparation takes place, student clubs meet and students may get extra help from teachers. On Thursdays and Fridays, students participate in a non-graded activity of their choice.
Each quarter, students may select a new activity that allows them to experience several different options throughout the year. Options this quarter include composing music, working in the shop and other hands-on activities. One group is planning for the annual Reuben's Run that takes place during Memorial Day weekend.
These experiences are helping Albany students become more well-rounded young adults who are prepared for life.
