MONROE — The Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Green County is inviting women to join an empowering virtual health workshop this fall, designed to address a common but often unspoken challenge: bladder and bowel control.
More than half of women over 50 experience some level of incontinence, yet stigma and misinformation often prevent them from seeking support. The “Mind Over Matter: Healthy Bowels, Healthy Bladder” (MOM) program, developed by the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, provides practical, evidence-based tools to manage — and in some cases prevent — these symptoms.
By having the opportunity to participate online, via Zoom, participants can engage fully in the program without leaving home — eliminating any barriers such as travel or mobility concerns. The virtual format also allows for a safe, private, and comfortable environment, encouraging open discussion and personal reflection while connecting with others facing similar experiences.
“Participating virtually gives women the flexibility to learn, practice, and ask questions in a setting where they feel most comfortable,” said Laura Steiner, ADRC’s Education & Prevention Specialist. “It makes accessing expert guidance and support easier than ever, providing the same valuable information as an in-person class.”
The upcoming virtual MOM workshop will be held on:
● Monday, October 13
● Monday, October 27
● Monday, November 10
● All sessions will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. via Zoom.
An optional Zoom Practice Session will be offered at 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 6 for those new to the online platform.
In this small-group virtual setting, participants will learn about pelvic floor exercises, nutrition tips, and lifestyle strategies while benefiting from supportive group discussions. Even women who are not currently experiencing incontinence can gain valuable preventive strategies.
Registration is required, and space is limited. Attendance at all three sessions is strongly encouraged to maximize the program’s benefits. A suggested donation of $15 helps contribute to some program costs.
