MONROE — The Aging & Disability Resource Center of Southwestern Wisconsin and their Green County Office, along with Southwestern Wisconsin Community Action Program LIFT, needs volunteers for their driver escort programs.
Volunteer drivers help fill in some of the gaps and challenges in the rural transportation network. Volunteer drivers use their vehicles to transport others in our community and get reimbursed for their mileage at 50 to 58 cents per mile. Priority trips are for taking seniors and adults with disabilities to medical appointments.
Several of the volunteers who drive are recently retired and do this as a way to give back, maintain a schedule, meet new people or just get out of the house. Drivers of all ages and available time slots are welcome to apply. Drive time per week can vary depending on the driver’s availability and interest.
An informational meeting is planned for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19 at Blackhawk Technical College, Room 414, 210 4th Ave., Monroe.
The meeting will start with dinner, followed by information on the opportunities available, hearing from a current volunteer driver, with time for any questions about the programs. For questions or to RSVP, contact Kristina at the Southwestern Wisconsin Regional Planning office at 608-348-5055.
