More than five dozen youth participated ni the 2023 Green County Dairy Days Cattle Show June 17 at the Green County Fairgrounds. Champions included, from left to right: Supreme Champion, Emma Hendrickson; Reserve Supreme Champion, Olivia Jennrich; Honorable Mention Supreme Champion, Beau Hoesly.

MONROE — On Saturday, June 17, the Green County Fairgrounds was filled with all breeds of dairy heifers for the 2023 Green County Dairy Days Cattle Show. The 64 participants came from all over southern Wisconsin, and even a few from northern Illinois, to show off their 116 dairy heifers in 32 heifer classes.

Dairy Days is an annual Green County event sponsored by the Green County Ag Chest, along with many other sponsors, held during June Dairy Month. Dairy Days includes a banquet for the crowning of the new Green County Dairy Queen and Green County Dairy Princess as well as a cattle show at the Green County Fairgrounds in Monroe, Wisconsin.

At the cattle show youth from all over southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois wear their whites and proudly lead their dairy heifers around the arena. Because of the generosity of our sponsors, youth do not pay any fees to participate in the cattle show.

The Green County Ag Chest was developed in 1958 when the Green County Dairy Promotion Committee and the Green County Agricultural Foundation merged. Since its inception, the Green County Ag Chest has been committed to developing new and unique ways to promote the hardworking people of Green County and the products and resources they provide.

The Green County Ag Chest is dedicated to enriching the lives of young people through activities which support education, personal growth, and community involvement. The Green County Ag Chest partners with Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin and University of Wisconsin-Extension.

Many local businesses, as well as businesses from outside Green County, donated to 2023 Green County Dairy Days to support both the County Queen and Princess Crowning Banquet and the Dairy Cattle Show. The cattle show is funded 100% by the donations received from these very generous sponsors which allowed the cattle show to be a free event for all youth in grades 3 through 13, enabling anyone with a dairy heifer and the desire, to participate in the show. Each exhibitor received a complimentary t-shirt to commemorate their participation in the event.

Bailee Kearns of Seneca served as our Judge for the show.  Bailee, along with her husband, and their two young sons farm with her in-laws at Tombeth Farms where they milk 130 Registered Holsteins. They enjoy exhibiting at Wisconsin Holstein shows, as well as at World Dairy Expo.

The show began with Showmanship judging. The top three in each category were given a plaque and the top Showman in each class also received a camp chair imprinted with the 2023 Green County Dairy Days logo.
