MONROE - Green County 4-H member, Amanda Butson, from the Dougherty Creek 4-H Club, qualified for the third year in a row at the National 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational held in Grand Island, Nebraska. She competed in the muzzle loading event against 57 other competitors from 16 states.
The first day was the 50-yard bulls eye standing target. Butson made the winner's podium placing 10th in the event with a score of 82.01 out of a possible score of 100.
The second day was the 25-yard critters and bottles novelty targets, and Butson made the winner's podium once again placing eighth in the event with a score of 143 out of a possible score of 200.
On the third day, Butson placed 30th in the Silhouette competition. She was the top shooter on the Wisconsin Muzzle loading team all three days of the event. Her overall ranking at the end of the competition was 14th out of 58 competitors, and her muzzle loading team placed eighth overall out of 14 teams.
This was only Butson's second competition with muzzle loading.
She qualified for Nationals after coming in second in her first muzzle loading competition at the State Shoot in Beloit last year. The entire Wisconsin team placed 14th out of 30 states that were represented at the event.
She hopes to compete in her fourth National 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational next year in Kerrville, Texas.
