33rd Annual Gap Church Hymn Sing Fundraiser coming up
Church News

ALBANY — The 33rd Annual Gap Church Hymn Sing Fundraiser will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 17.

Music will be by Ernie Saunders and the group “In Bed By Nine”. There is no charge and refreshments will be served. A free-will offering  is appreciated. The church and cemetery are located at W2401 Wis. 59, Albany.

The Gap Church and Cemetery was established in 1853 and built in 1856 under the name of Monticello Prairie Baptist Church and Cemetery. The name Gap Church and Cemetery was given by the local people that lived in the area because of its location between two hills. Eventually the name just faded away and became the Gap Church and Cemetery.

There was a parsonage and small barn built in 1880. It was  located west of the church across the road at the intersection of what is now Decatur/Sylvester Road and Wis. 59. The buildings were sold and moved in 1890.

This event is sponsored by the Gap Church Museum, Inc. a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the Gap Church and Cemetery.
