MONROE — The second annual Green County 4-H Day Camp was held at the Green County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Aug. 10.
This event was open to all youth going into first through third grade this fall with the theme “Discover the Treasure of 4-H Day Camp.” There were 25 youth in attendance, with 19 of them being 4-H members and six of them not 4-H members. The purpose of 4-H Day Camp was to promote the Green County 4-H program to youth and families both currently in 4-H and not currently enrolled in 4-H.
During the event, the youth experienced the fun of 4-H camp packed into six hours, including games, crafts, nature activities, campfire songs and making new friends.
Participants completed four activities: making wind mills to talk about alternative energy, creating stress balls and sensory bottles to discuss mental health, making mini greenhouses and seed mosaic necklaces, and going on a treasure hunt to tie in the theme for the camp. Each of the activities allowed youth to take home a memento as well.
Green County 4-H enrollment opens on Friday, Sept. 6. Any youth in 5 year old kindergarten through one year past high school is welcome to enroll. If youth would like to be eligible to exhibit at the 2020 Green County Fair through the Green County 4-H program, 4-H enrollment must be completed by Nov. 1.
