FREEPORT — The Highland Community College (HCC) Agriculture Department announced the 2025 Gather and Grow event. This event will take place on Sept. 18 at Highland Community College and will feature a tour of the college’s state-of-the-art agriculture facility, followed by a four-course meal with locally sourced ingredients. This is a unique opportunity to connect with faculty, students, and industry professionals in the agriculture field.

The evening will kick off as attendees embark on a guided tour of the college’s cutting-edge agricultural facilities. Guests are asked to park at the Student/Conference Center on campus and will travel by bus to the Agriculture Center, Greenhouse, Garden Center and finally the HCC Research Farm. The tour will provide an in-depth look at the groundbreaking work being done in agricultural sciences, including subsurface irrigation, crop production techniques, nutrient and chemical research, and valuable partnerships with local businesses. Participants will also have the chance to learn about the college’s impact on the agricultural industry and its commitment to advancing sustainability and innovation. 

Guests will then enjoy an evening of networking, delicious food, and a celebration of the region’s agriculture diversity. The dinner will provide an opportunity for participants to engage in meaningful conversations about the future of agriculture, innovations in farming practices, and the role of agriculture in the community.

“The Agriculture Department at HCC, strives to expose students to the diversity of the industry and provide opportunities to students that encourages lifelong learning in an engaging atmosphere,” said Highland Community College Agriculture Instructor Justin Ebert. “My hope is that the Gather and Grow event highlights that commitment and generates valuable conversation on how Highland Community College can best meet the needs of northwest Illinois.”
